The “1/3 rule” for cabinet hardware is a simple design guideline that helps achieve perfect balance and proportion. It suggests that the handle length should be roughly one-third the width of the drawer or cabinet door. This ensures the hardware looks neither too large nor too small for the space. For example, a 60cm drawer would look best with a handle about 20cm approx. long (60 ÷ 3 = 20).

For example, larger pulls can create a more modern, statement look, while smaller ones keep things subtle and classic.
